As an adult placement (AP) carer you have specific insurance requirements in respect of public liability, home, motor and holiday insurance.
Does your home insurance policy include non-members of your family?
Typically a home insurance policy will cover only the belongings of the policyholder and members of the family permanently residing with the policyholder.
Your insurance policy may have restrictions placed upon it or may be declined altogether once your insurer is aware of your occupation as a carer.
Ellis Bates has secured a complete household insurance package for buildings, contents and personal possessions with the Legal & General Insurance Company specifically designed for carers. It includes up to three people who are not family members who reside at the home on a long-term basis or are regular respitees.
The policy has the benefit of comprehensive cover at a competitive premium and automatically provides a claims helpline as well as legal and domestic advice. Payment by instalment facilities are available on request.
Please Note: 1) Ellis Bates is the insurance broker acting for the National Association of Adult Placement Services and 2) Legal & General will not usually increase the standard premium because of your occupation as a carer.
Please telephone Ellis Bates for a personal quotation. Even if you are already insured, insurance companies will decline or restrict cover once they are aware of your occupation as a carer.
Public Liability
We also provide the public liability insurance you need as an AP carer, whether you provide day care only, full time residential support and care, or kinship support. The limit of indemnity (cover) is £5,000,000 which also indemnifies your local authority.

Temporary (holiday) Support Worker Cover
Your liability cover can be transferred temporarily to other carers coming into your home to care for your residents during your holiday absence (up to a maximum of two weeks at a time). The declaration form below must be completed and returned to Ellis Bates with the appropriate £10.00 fee, prior to any temporary relief period.
